Outreach & Education
PCA reaches out to consumers, consumer groups, community agencies, clergy and lay leaders and legislators to inform them of services available to older adults, and of the older adult population’s needs and concerns.
PCA offers language services to limited English-proficient (LEP) consumers in their preferred language to ensure that they have the fullest possible access to PCA services that are neither restricted, delayed nor inferior as compared to services provided to English-proficient consumers.
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging produces a broad spectrum of publications dedicated to informing a variety of audiences of programs, news and developments in the aging field.
PCA’s legislative liaison meets with city, state and federal elected officials on a regular basis to keep them informed about programs and services available to older adults. In addition, PCA develops policy statements and presents testimony on issues of concern to older adults, including local utility rate increases, senior taxation, transportation benefits for seniors and more.

Philadelphia is home to approximately 9,000 Latino seniors from some 20 Spanish-speaking countries. About half of these older adults prefer to communicate in their language of origin.
In addition to its other outreach activities, our staff makes available training for Spanish-language health and social service providers in the community, which assists them in making referrals for appropriate PCA services. In addition, a conference for Spanish-speaking elders is held each year. Our staff also convenes the Latino Advisory Committee every other month and works with community-based organizations that serve the Latino community. These include the Olney-Logan Latino Aging Committee, COMHAR’s Latino Geriatric Advisory Committee, CARIE’s Hispanic Communities United, the Latino Partnership’s Golden Age, and the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, among others.

The PCA – Clergy Interfaith Coalition works with religious organizations in our community to promote PCA services. The Coalition helps clergy to identify and refer older congregants in need of assistance and provides guidance to faith- based programs establishing and expanding programs for seniors. The Coalition sponsors two annual conferences for clergy and lay leaders. These feature informational sessions, training and technical assistance workshops; case studies of successful clergy-aging partnerships, and information about community aging resources.
