Adult Day Services

Adult Day Services
Adult Day Services are non-residential facilities that provide a protective environment, personal care and recreational activities to persons who cannot remain safely at home or who are isolated at home alone. Adult day services are often critical in allowing older adults to remain at home and avoid nursing home placement. Licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, these facilities benefit older adults by reducing isolation and providing a setting for stimulating activities. At the same time, caretakers are able to work at a job outside the home, or simply take a break from the demands of caregiving, knowing that their loved one is in good hands.

Adult Day Services typically include:

  • Personal care:
Assistance with walking, eating, toileting and personal hygiene
  • Recreational activities:
Arts and crafts; musical entertainment; gentle exercise; games; holiday/birthday celebrations
  • Counseling and social services
  • Medical support:
Blood pressure monitoring and vision screening
  • Transportation to and from the center

Candidates for Adult Day Services include persons who:

  • Can no longer complete their daily self-care activities independently
  • Cannot remain at home alone safely
  • Are isolated and desire companionship

Arrangements must be made in advance for an individual to attend an adult day service facility. For specifics on eligibility, services provided, costs and any other requirements, contact the individual facilities.
